Hidden deep in a forest in the middle of France was a small kingdom known as The Kingdom of Tranquillité. It was a quite, peaceful kingdom ruled by a powerful and kind king with his beautiful young daughter. The people were courteous to each other and crime did not exist. It was perfect. At least until one evening when the music began. The soft wail of a violin echoed through the streets. A beautiful and heavy melody. No one bothered to find the source, feeling comforted by this mournful tune. Everyone fell into a deep slumber.

The next morning started as normal. Well, until the body of an old man face down in the town's center fountain was found. The fountain's water had turned a deep shade of crimson. The man was most certainly dead having been stabbed just above his heart, according to the Coroner's report. He had died a slow and painful death. A murder! In the very kingdom of peace! The townspeople eyed each other nervously. It could be any one of them, for not a single piece of evidence was found at the scene of the crime. Uneasiness spread through the air and well into the evening. That is, until the violin's mournful song began again. While the previous night's tune was no louder than a faint whisper. The sound was noticeably louder this evening. The nerves of the townspeople slowly vanished and the comfort of the tune helped them to sleep.

The next morning was filled with more dreadful new. Two middle-aged women were found dead in their parlor having been stabbed by some sort of long, narrow object just above their hearts. They had been murdered sometime in the evening while everyone is asleep. However, their faces were frozen in a state of content rather than fear. Although they had died slowly, they seemed to have not even noticed they were dying. Once again, no evidence was found at the scene of the crime and the two women had no connection to the old man from the day before. Well into that evening, the atmosphere surrounding the kingdom was tense. The King sent out guards to watch over the villagers safety. Then the song began. Instead of the usual comfort, the town began to feel angst. When the music had started, the murders also began. But where was the sound coming from? Who was playing the violin? Unaffected by the kingdom's distress, the violin continued to wail. Louder and closer.

The next morning occurred just like the previous. A murder. Some poor tavern girl was found dead in an alley behind the kingdom's most popular tavern. Her injuries were identical to the other murders and she had no relation with the others except for the lack of evidence. A strand of horsehair was stuck in her corset. The same kind of hair used in a violin bow. The hunt for the murderer began. Any home with a stringed instrument was subject to being searched and any of those found in possession of one were arrested. The once peaceful kingdom was now filled with murder, neighbors selling out neighbors, lies, deceit, and corruption. The King was hurt the most. How could he protect his people? He called on his young daughter, fearing she may be the next target.

"My sweet daughter, I fear this kingdom is no longer safe for you. You must find a safe haven far from here."

The young princess stared at her father with blank and empty eyes. She didn't speak a word, she never did. She simply nodded her head and returned to her room.

Stangely, there was no music for the next couple of nights, and the murders ceased. The kingdom celebrated in victory, thinking they had outsmarted the sinner that had spoiled their good name. That evening was the first night everyone slept peacefully. And then it returned.

A lone figure stood in front of the center fountain with a tin cup by her feet and her face covered by a hooded cloak. She rosined her bow and began to play the just recently heard about the musical murders. Not far off, a young man was locking up his Clock shop, having just returned from a distant country. He slowly approached the young musician and smiled.

"Violin Sonata No. 1 in G minor." He stated and threw a coin into the tin cup.

The violinist smiled softly and glanced up at the man. She stopped playing slowly and relaxed into a normal stance.

"This town is filled with corruption and always will be. It's outward appearance may seem sweet, but on the inside is made of madness and evil."

With that, she plunged the bow into the man's chest. His eyes widened. She pulled the bow back out and continued her song.

He stumbled back and held his chest, glancing down at the red liquid seeping through his hand. He smiled faintly.

"A song created after the death of another....played before the death of another....How nice" He muttered before falling to the ground in a slump.

The violinist finished her song and smiled once more, removing her hood to reveal the unmistakable blonde hair of the kingdom's princess.

"The old man has been stealing coins from the fountain and using them to pay for prostitutes. He has died in the fountain."

The young man on the ground looked up at her"

"The two women have been smuggling in alcohol that is prohibited and spending their wealth on fine furniture. They had died in their front parlor."

The princess knelt in front of the man.

"The young girl has been having an affair with the King and has been selling out information to the enemies. She had died in the very alley those meetings have taken place."

The young man was now struggling to breath. The front of his jacket was soaked in red.

"What....have I done?" He managed.

The girl smiled. "You have kidnapped the princess and have taken her far away from this dreadful kingdom."

The man stared at her, confused.

"None of your internal organs or arteries have been penetrated. Therefore, you shall live. And you will show me the world I have been sheltered from."

The next morning, the kingdom awoke to an unbelievable shock. The King had been murdered. Stabbed just above the heart. In his hand was a picture of the royal family. Blood covered all the faces except for one. The face of the young princess who could no longer be found. A single note was found at the center fountain.

"I have committed murders, but no crimes. The murders will continue. Although you only have to look to your fellow neighbors. Evil and Corruption has plagued this town. And I'm not the only one ridding it of it."
